In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure however, they bounce back with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. The album is different from the ballads on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. This album was their first album to go platinum in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name to a different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and begin an extensive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa on a recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
